I believe these are from Harrisand, the annual sand sculpture competition held at Harrison Hot Springs in British Columbia, Canada.

We were trying to figure out how the sand is prepared so it will handle the projections and deep relief molding.
Superb tecnique, subjects aand artistry!

depending on which competition the sand is either hand packed with buckets and wooden forms by the sculptors themselves or somebody like me volunteers and builds wooden forms in the desired sizes and fills them with sand then soaks it with water while filling and compressing with a ground and pound ( jackhammer) and after a day or two it is almost a brick and when the sculptors finish , they are periodically sprayed with a environmentally friendly glue to preserve detail and will last a few months.
